What the heck is a # anyways? They’re used on social media websites such as twitter and instagram. A word or phrase preceded by a hash/ pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic. Hashtags are great for businesses or promoters who want their content to be seen by as many people as possible. Placing a # in front of keywords draws attention, promotes, and organizes. It makes posts easier for users to find, follow, start a conversation, and access information.
Why are they so important? Social media sites use what is called an algorithm. It’s a process or set of rules followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, by the computer. The algorithm will keep your posts lingering with the same number of people, and it makes it difficult for new people or businesses to reach out to new clientele or followers on social media.
